Our 85th Anniversary
On April 24th and 25th, 2015, we will celebrate the Airport's 85th anniversary. To get into the celebratory mood of things, you can watch home movies of the "Opening Exercises and Air Races" from 1930 by clicking here.
We are honored to have received 85th anniversary proclamations from both South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and Richland County Council.
You are cordially invited to help us commemorate the opening of the Midlands’ first public use airport at the following events:
- Richland County Council Anniversary Proclamation – 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 21st, County Council Chambers, Richland County Administration Building, 2020 Hampton Street.
- Saturday, April 25th, 8:30 a.m., Hangar Y2 – In cooperation with EAA-242 and SCHAF, a free breakfast and free airport t-shirts will be provided to airport tenants. For those wishing, an aircraft parade and ceremonial aircraft “Fleet blessing” (similar to those provided at coastal Water Festivals, only with airplanes instead of boats) will be available afterwards with viewing by the public.
Enjoy the lovely Columbia Spring weather and please join us for one or all of these fantastic events!
